Accurate, research-backed step conversion tools, free for everyone.
StepsConvertor is a free collection of step conversion calculators built to answer one simple question accurately: how far did you actually walk? Whether you want to convert your daily steps to miles, kilometres, or calories burned, our tools give you a personalised result in seconds, grounded in published exercise-science research rather than rough averages.
Most step calculators online use a single flat figure usually “2,000 steps per mile” and apply it to everyone. The problem is that stride length varies enormously between people. A five-foot adult and a six-foot-two adult walking the same 10,000 steps cover noticeably different distances. A one-size-fits-all number can be off by a full mile over a single day.
We built StepsConvertor to do better. Every calculator on the site personalises its result using your height and pace, so the distance and calorie figures you get reflect your body, not a generic average. The goal is simple: the most accurate step conversions on the web, free and available to anyone, with no sign-up required.
Every formula is based on peer-reviewed research, and every calculator factors in the variables that actually change the result.
No sign-up, no account, no paywall, no email capture. The tools work instantly and completely free.
Clean calculators that give you the answer in seconds, without clutter or confusing options.
Accuracy only means something if it is grounded in real data. Our distance calculations are based on stride-length research published by Hoeger and colleagues in ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, which measured how many steps people actually take to cover a mile at different walking and running speeds.
Distance formula: Miles = (Steps × stride length in feet) ÷ 5,280, with stride length estimated at 41–45% of standing height.
Calorie formula: Based on MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities (Ainsworth et al.), which assigns an energy cost to activities at different intensities.
We explain every formula openly on our methodology page, because we believe you should be able to see exactly how a number was reached. No black boxes.
We are upfront about the limits of any step calculator. These tools provide well-grounded estimates, not laboratory measurements. Real-world distance and calorie burn are affected by terrain, fitness, individual metabolism, and walking style factors no calculator can fully capture. Our results are designed to be accurate and useful for everyday planning, fitness tracking, and goal-setting, but they are estimates and should never replace professional medical or fitness advice.
StepsConvertor includes a growing library of free tools: the steps to miles calculator, steps to km, steps to calories, miles to steps, stride length, and daily step goal calculators with more added regularly. Each is built to the same standard of accuracy and transparency.
